China’s first home made aircraft carrier Shandong conducting sea trials

China’s Defence Ministry said the navy’s first entirely home built aircraft is carrying

out sea trials to test weapons and equipment and for crew’s enhanced training.

Ren Guoqiang ,defence ministry spokesman said the exercise were being conducted as planned , apparently unaffected by the country’s coronavirus outbreak.

It is the second Chinese aircraft carrier to enter service after the Liaoning, which was

originally purchased from Ukraine and entirely refurbished.

It is based on a Soviet design with a “ski jump” style flight deck for takeoffs. It is

powered by conventional oil fuelled steam power plant.
